AT HAU ATHENS TOASTMASTERS                            13.03.2019

Dear fellow Toastmasters,

     My name is Afroditi and I would like to present myself at the same time with a book I brought here for you. I’ m 35 years old and I have studied Greek and Byzantine literature and recently I’ve graduated from Athens School of Fine arts, the Department of History and Theory of Art. That’s why I’ve chosen a book of drawings. It is a special book because it has been published by a famous man John Lennon!!! 

Actually, I didn’t know that J.L. was an illustrator artist as a poet, a songwriter, a political activist and the most outspoken member of the greatest rock-and-roll band of all time “Beatles”!!

      John made the drawings in this book with and for Sean (his son). He had also written a very emotional song about his son with the title “Beautiful Boy”.

     So, have a look at these pictures. He uses pastel colors and simple child motifs. It seems to be easy but it is not. They remind me of Picasso’s paintings. As he said when he grew up “he tried to paint like a child “. In fact, these images are engraving just like this original one. The book and the engraving has a story too. They have traveled through the Ocean with my mother in law.  She discovered them in a bazaar and gave them to me as a gift. How lucky I am!!!
